Contact Scanner AI Privacy Policy

Aurora Apps / Daniel Steel ("we," "us," "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard information when you use our mobile application (the "App").

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

1. Information We Collect

1.1. User Account Information

When you create an account or sign in, we collect:

  • Email address
  • Display name
  • User ID (automatically generated)
  • Authentication credentials (managed securely by Firebase Authentication)

You can sign in using:

  • Email and password
  • Google Sign-In (via Google's authentication service)

1.2. Automatically Collected Data

  • Application Logs: We use Firebase to collect app performance logs, crash reports, and analytics
  • Device Information: Device model, operating system name and version, device name
  • Usage Statistics: Scan count, subscription status, installation date

1.3. Photo and Camera Data

Contact Scanner AI requires access to your camera and photo library to scan business cards and conference badges. Images you scan are:

  • Processed by OpenAI's Vision API to extract contact information using AI
  • Transmitted securely via HTTPS to OpenAI's servers for processing
  • Not stored on our servers
  • Not used for training AI models

You can disable camera and photo access at any time in your device settings, but this will prevent the app from functioning.

1.4. Contact Information

Extracted contact information (names, phone numbers, email addresses, companies, etc.) is:

  • Stored in Firebase Firestore (cloud database) associated with your user account
  • Accessible across your devices when you're signed in
  • Not sold or shared with third parties
  • Organized by events you create (optional)

1.5. Third-Party Services

The App integrates with the following third-party services:

  • Firebase (Google): Authentication, cloud database (Firestore), cloud storage, cloud functions, analytics
  • OpenAI: Image processing and contact information extraction
  • RevenueCat: Subscription and payment management
  • Google Sign-In: Optional authentication method

These services have their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to review.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the collected data to:

  • Process scanned images to extract contact information using AI
  • Store and sync your contacts across devices via Firebase
  • Manage user authentication and accounts
  • Track subscription status and manage in-app purchases
  • Maintain and improve app performance
  • Diagnose crashes and fix bugs
  • Provide customer support when requested
  • Send notifications about new installations and purchases to our internal monitoring system

We do not use your data for advertising or sell it to third parties.

3. Data Storage & Security

  • User accounts and extracted contact data are stored in Firebase Firestore (Google Cloud)
  • All stored data is encrypted and protected using industry-standard security measures
  • Scanned images are transmitted securely to OpenAI for processing but are not stored by us
  • Authentication is managed securely by Firebase Authentication
  • All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption

4. Data Retention

  • Scanned images: Not stored by us; processed in real-time by OpenAI's API
  • Extracted contact information: Stored in Firebase Firestore indefinitely until you delete it
  • User account data: Retained as long as you have an active account
  • Application logs: Retained according to Firebase's data retention policies

You can delete contacts individually within the app or delete your entire account to remove all associated data.

5. User Rights & Control

You have the right to:

  • Access your data stored in Firebase
  • Delete contacts individually within the app
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data
  • Revoke camera and photo library access through device settings
  • Sign out of your account at any time

6. Children's Privacy

Our App is not intended for children under the age of 13 (or the equivalent minimum age in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

7. AI and Machine Learning

Contact Scanner AI uses OpenAI's Vision API to process your images:

  • Scanned images are sent to OpenAI's servers for analysis
  • OpenAI extracts contact information from the images
  • We do not control OpenAI's data practices; refer to OpenAI's Privacy Policy
  • Images are processed in real-time and not stored by us

8. Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to third parties, except:

  • OpenAI: For image processing and contact extraction
  • RevenueCat: For subscription and payment management
  • Firebase (Google): For app infrastructure, authentication, and data storage
  • Legal compliance: When required by law

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed on servers located in different countries, including:

  • United States (Firebase/Google Cloud, OpenAI, RevenueCat)

We ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your data in accordance with this Privacy Policy and applicable laws.

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data, including:
